4-DVD Series. Viewable from a DVD player or computer.
- Computer System Service. 21 min. Using a scan tool students diagnose system problems and pinpoint tests (i.e. active sensors for oxygen, magnetic, knock & light or solar sensors, plus passive sensors for temperature, throttle position, pressure and flow sensors). Covers sensor replacement, actuator and computer service. Shows downloading software updates to car's computer.
- Computer On-board Diagnostics. 14 min. Program illustrates the different systems within a car (brakes, electrical and steering) that an OBD-II system monitors and troubleshoots. High/low input failure, sensor types and using a digital thermometer to verify trouble codes is explained. Shows dealing with older vehicles and reverting to low-tech methods.
- Computer System Operation. 30 min. With live-action footage and 3-D animation, analyzing data from OBD II vehicles is demonstrated. Topics include cybernetic concepts (how computerized monitoring systems are modeled on the human senses), active/passive sensors, the role of computers (in anti-lock brake, suspension control, climate control, hybrid drive, and other functions) and various actuators (solenoid, servo motor, relay and dash display).
- Automotive Computer Problems. 30 min. Provides a basic working knowledge of automotive computers and proper use of OBD-II scan tools. Students learn system operation, trouble codes, scan tools and repair procedures. Ford, GM, Chrysler and other makes are discussed. Hybrid engine technology is also addressed.
