Laser Cutters
Laser Printers
A STEM Makerspace can take on many forms, depending on what kinds of projects you and your students want to complete. One of the most versatile technology products you can have is a Glowforge, Darkly Labs, or Full Spectrum Pro-Series or Muse 3D laser cutter. These Makerspace tools offer a wide range of applications to suit any curriculum or general purpose need. From model-making in traditional STEAM classes to more specialized items for agriculture, athletics, and drama classes the ways to use a laser cutter are endless. You can likely even find a need for fundraising or community improvement to help local organizations and businesses.
Fume Extractors & Air Filters
One of the most important Makerspace items you’ll need with your laser cutter is a fume extractor. Laser cutters can produce harmful fumes, presenting a safety risk for you and your students. A fume extractor connects to the printer to filter out these fumes before they enter the breathable air. Most fume extractors will have a 2-stage filter system, though some models may combine both stages into the same filter. Keeping replacement filters on hand is a must for a continually safe work environment.
Other Accessories
A complete laser cutting Makerspace kit will require a few extra accessories. First, an air compressor and hose kit will assist with keeping the laser free of flammable debris and smoke, and vent the dangerous fumes outdoors. Combining these with a water chiller helps ensure your laser doesn’t overheat and break down, hurting printing performance. Adding a rotary attachment or rotary riser combo can make your printer even more versatile by being able to engrave round objects like bottles and glasses.
Keeping all these technology supplies and tools accessible is much easier with a Makerspace cart. Having your printer, fume extractor, air filter, and water chiller in one mobile unit allows you to move around the classroom and assist students as needed, or even to move between classrooms and other areas on campus. It’s just one more reason you’ll love these STEM products in your school.
